The workshop will explore the operations of heteronormativity through ethnographically driven presentations, taking into account their material, affective, narrative, spatial and bodily elements. A key note talk will be provided by Dr. Caroline Osella (SOAS).
Marjo’s paper is titled “From knowledge to experience – and back? Heteronormativity in relationship and sex counselling”. Whilst many practices of relationship and sex counselling could (still) be described as heteronormative, the paper seeks to find alternative to the norm-critical approaches ways to understand therapeutic cultures. Further, it investigates the consequences of shifting focus from ethnographic ‘knowing’ to the issues of relating and experiencing.
